A place where non-right-wing but faithful Christians can fellowship, discuss issues of faith as well as current events, issues relating to social justice, and other similar topics; a place to learn and grow together in Christ.
So What is this Community for? This community is made for people of the Christian faith whose personal political beliefs are primarily to the left of center (including all the way to the far left, sans violence, of course), to learn how to be better servants of our Lord, grow closer to God, become better public citizens and caretakers for "the least of these," and form long lasting friendships with other fellow non-right wing Christians, whether you personally consider yourself to be "liberal" or "conservative." This community was created to be a source of inspiration, support and advice for Progressive Christians of all ages. We have a warm, welcoming, active community and we'd love for you to join.
What Can You Expect To See Posted Here? Personal posts, Devotionals, Prayer Requests, Bible Studies, Journal Inspirations, Shared News Articles & Blog Entries of Topical Interest, Announcements for Progressive Activities & Organizations, and Much More!
What Are The General Beliefs Of This Community?
We at Christians Whose Politics Are Progressive firmly believe the great doctrines as they are revealed to us in the Bible. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, completely true (with plenty of room for interpretation within that general framework) -- containing no errors from the original manuscripts, and the final authority for faith and daily living. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
We believe that there is one God eternally existent in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deut. 6:4; 2 Cor. 13:14)
We believe in the deity of our Lord and Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, his sinless life, his substitution death for our sins, and his physical resurrection. (Heb. 1:8; Matt. 1:23; 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 10:10-14; Rom. 1:3-4)
We believe that all human beings are sinners (imperfect) by nature and by practice, are sentenced to eternal separation from God, and are in need of personal regeneration. (Rom. 3:9-10; John 3:3)
We believe that salvation is the gift of God offered to all by grace through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Eph. 2:8-9; John 3:16-18)
We believe that all people are made by the same loving Creator, that all men are brothers and all women sisters, without exception. We believe that knowing this truth is the first step to realizing a more just and equitable world.
We believe that social justice is a human birthright.
We believe that freedom is God's will, as He gave humanity the freedom to choose; so should we, as His creations, emulate Him by giving our brothers and sisters worldwide the same freedom to choose.
If you wish to bring up a doctrinal or theological debate in this community, please make sure you use Bible verses to back up what you believe. As stated in the first bullet point, we believe God's Word is the final authority.
If you wish to bring up a sociopolitical debate in this community, please make sure you are respectful at all times and recognize that we currently live in a very unjust and inequitable world, where imbalances of power exist and some people suffer indignities daily, and across generations, that others do not and have not.
Our Rules Love one another and be respectful at all times.
If you have a problem with anyone bring it the the attention of a MOD either by email or through private messaging so that the situation can be monitored and handled in an appropriate manner. Do not involve the community in any private disputes.
Do not give unGodly advice. If it goes against what the Bible says then we neither approve of it nor condone it here.
If you've come to start drama, please leave, because that's neither Christ-like nor acceptable behavior here and will result in you being banned.
When you join please post an introduction. Lurking is permitted but not encouraged. We want to get to know you! Don't be shy. You're amongst friends here.
